Culvert & Waterway Analysis

Bolton & Menk has experience in creating Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) for the DNR and FEMA including the development of the Flood Insurance Study (FIS) documentation. We have extensive experience in using the HEC-RAS and the GIS based HEC-GeoRAS software to develop the flood model used to generate the mapping. The modeling process includes calculating the stream flows entering the stream study area and routing those flows through the existing natural topography, bridge and culvert crossings at roadways and stream encroachment areas.

Bolton & Menk also has extensive experience in using Federal Highway Administration methodologies to design bridges and culverts. This work has been done for all types of roadway crossings from rural township roads to major US highways. We also prepare the associated risk analyses that are typically required whenever constructing a culvert in excess of 48” in diameter. Risk analyses evaluate the potential problems associated upstream and downstream from the proposed culvert or bridge installation.
