HISTORY

First Office, 1949

In 1949, John Bolton & Martin Menk, Jr. founded the firm as a surveying business in St. Peter, Minnesota, with little more than expertise, persistence, and an unwavering commitment to clients. Housing developments boomed after World War II and the firm was kept busy surveying parcels and planning subdivisions. Bolton & Menk, Inc. expanded in the early 1960's with the acquisition of a small firm in southern Minnesota. In 1966, the main office moved from St. Peter to Mankato, making it more centrally located in the region. This fulfilled part of Martin Menk's plan to improve service to the growing municipal client base.

cityscapeExpansion continued in the 80's and 90's as the firm grew and offices were added to serve clients throughout Minnesota and Northern Iowa. Since 2000, the firm has added two more offices in the Twin Cities area to serve the rapidly growing metropolitan area. The firm continues to review other opportunities to better serve its clients.

Bikers and runnersIn addition to the expansion of the service area, the firm's services have expanded as well. Expertise in the areas of environmental services for municipalities and industrial clients, plus specialized services in transportation and water resources have been added in response to client needs and priorities.

In today's fast-paced society, the prime reason for the firm's success has been its willingness to use new technologies and adapt to the changing needs of its clients. Since 1996, the firm has been nationally ranked in the Top 500 Engineering Firms by Engineering News Record (ENR). Bolton & Menk, Inc. continues to be an industry leader in assisting clients in meeting their ever-increasing demand for quality engineering and surveying services.
