City of Coralville, IA Awarded ISWEP The Ripple Effect Award
The City of Coralville, Iowa’s Clear Creek Stream Mitigation Bank has been awarded The Ripple Effect Award from ISWEP at this year’s IStorm Conference. This award recognizes urban stormwater management projects that protect and improve Iowa’s water quality.
The Clear Creek Stream Mitigation Bank was developed to restore ecological function within an urban watershed using the Iowa Stream Mitigation Method. Project elements included stream re‑meandering, floodplain reconnection, toe wood and root wad habitat features, and extensive native plantings.
The project restored two miles of stream and riparian corridor, created more than 50 acres of native vegetation, the planting of over 1,000 trees, and provides a financially sustainable mitigation bank projected to generate $10 million in credit sales to fund future phases.
Key project partners included Eocene Environmental Group, Inc., Impact 7G, Inc., and Peterson Contractors, Inc. Thank you to the entire project team and partners whose work made this recognition possible.
In episode 2 of our Community Compass video series, project partners and Bolton & Menk staff share how the Clear Creek project transformed a degraded channel into a resilient stream that improves water quality, reduces erosion, and creates a lasting habitat.
