City of Hastings - Downtown & Levee Park Project
Downtown Hastings and Levee Park have a rich history and City staff and council is “Beginning a Riverfront Renaissance.” This Downtown Street, Streetscape, Parking Lot, and Levee Park Improvement Project is one phase of “Beginning a Riverfront Renaissance.” Several plans have been developed over the past 10 years including the Levee Park Master Plan. Those plans, along with preserving the
rich history of the area, will all be
considered throughout the planning
and design phases of this project.
Public Involvement and engagement are critical components to the success of this project. The City has developed a Study Advisory Committee that includes: City Staff, Council members, Downtown Business Association members, and public at large. The Study Advisory Committee was developed to provide guidance to the design team on the interests of the public. Direct engagement with the public is also an important part of the process, the first public open house was held on January 9, 2014. Understanding the public’s interest for amenities, events, and overall feel of downtown and Levee Park is critical to the success of this project.
Bolton & Menk, will take ideas, concepts, etc. from the public open houses and Study Advisory Committee meetings and develop schematic designs to bring back to future Study Advisory Committee Meetings and Public Open Houses.
Construction of the Street
(concrete joint repair) and Parking Lot Improvements are expected for later this year. Streetscape and Levee Park
Improvements may begin later this year and will likely be implemented in a phased (multi-year) approach, depending on priority and funding availability.
We encourage you to browse the various documents and inspiration boards that have been developed to date. We welcome any feedback on ideas or concerns relative to Downtown and Levee Park Improvements. Collaboration and engagement with the public and staff will help create a successful project and improvements best suited for the users of the area.
