Project Update

Dakota County and the City of Lakeville have finalized construction plans to improve Kenwood Trail from 185th Street West to Dodd Boulevard in Lakeville. A final public open house, before construction begins, was held on April 18th. See Open House #2 materials under the Public Involvement tab. Stage 1 construction (Dodd Boulevard to Ipava Avenue) will begin in June and run through November (2017). Stage 2 (Ipava Avenue to 185th Street) will take place during 2018. See Construction Staging Map.

Project Overview

The Kenwood Trail (CSAH 50) corridor is a critical component of the broader transportation network in Dakota County, providing connections from Lakeville and Farmington to I-35. Kenwood Trail is also important to the City of Lakeville as it provides direct access to Kenwood Trail Middle School, multiple residential neighborhoods, and commercial areas at Dodd Boulevard and I-35.

The CSAH 50/60 roundabout was completed in the summer of 2015, providing a much needed intersection upgrade to serve growing demands more safely and efficiently. In addition to the construction of the CSAH 50/60 roundabout, Kenwood Trail will be
expanded to a 4-lane divided roadway to accommodate growing
demands. The expansion of Kenwood Trail is a joint project
between the City of Lakeville and Dakota County.

This project will include/provide:

  • Increased capacity and improved safety by expanding the existing highway to a 4-lane divided facility
  • Access modifications from local sidestreets
  • Pedestrian and bike paths along both sides of the highway
  • Traffic signal improvements at Ipava Avenue
  • Storm water improvements
