City of Kenyon First Street Improvement Project
The City of Kenyon will be reconstructing the portion of First Street from Red Wing Avenue (MN Trunk Highway 56) to Bullis Street during 2016.
Work to be done as part of the First Street Improvement Projects includes removal of the existing pavement and concrete curb, and installation of a new sanitary sewer system with new services to approximately 75% of the homes in the project area. A small amount of water main and storm sewer work will also be done at the intersection of First Street and Forest Street, and KMU will be replacing an existing fire hydrant at the intersection of First Street and Spring Street. Existing trees will be preserved as much as practical, but some number of trees will need to be removed in order to complete the proposed work.
New concrete curb and gutter will be installed, and new street surfacing will be placed. The street will be constructed to the same width as it currently exists.
The existing sidewalk along First Street will mostly be left in place. Portions will be removed and replaced as needed due to the other utility and street work. In addition, the sidewalk will be reconstructed at the intersections to install pedestrian ramps in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). A new segment of sidewalk will also be constructed along the north side of First Street, from Spring Street to the parking lot at Depot Park.
