Iowa City Municipal Airport needed an updated master plan to address the airport’s growth and development. Because the airport is in a confined area within city limits, Bolton & Menk developed a master plan focused on using the existing airfield configuration to generate additional revenue and attract businesses. Using GIS technology, Bolton & Menk assisted the city and airport commission with obstruction analysis and determined the amount of off-airport obstructions that needed to be addressed. A major component in the planning process is a financial feasibility analysis. The master plan evaluated revenue enhancement strategies, which may include industrial park and other airport business development. The results of this evaluation allow the airport to be maintained, operated, and developed in an efficient manner.
