The original concrete pavement and underlying utilities on TH 5, TH 19, and TH 22 in the City of Gaylord were constructed in 1930 and in dire need of replacement. Bolton & Menk performed contract administration, construction inspection, and materials testing services for the reconstruction of these highways through the city’s downtown business district, which included sewer and water replacement, street lighting, streetscaping, ADA improvements, and concrete and bituminous surfacing.
Working closely with the city and contractor, a construction staging plan was developed that minimized disruption to business access. Bolton & Menk successfully served as MnDOT’s representative during construction and ensured project objectives were achieved. The project provides a new pavement surface that will last for decades. It also revitalized Gaylord’s downtown business district with aesthetic enhancements including colored concrete sidewalks, limestone planter boxes, trees, and decorative lighting.
