City of Ankeny, Iowa
The City of Ankeny wanted to build off the High Trestle Trail’s popularity and elevate Ankeny’s portion as a sought after destination focused on user experience. The city has yet to capitalize on its potential to capture tourists the High Trestle Trail has brought many surrounding communities. Bolton & Menk and Group Creative Services developed a master plan for new experiences focused on public art as a way to attract locals and tourists to the Ankeny portion of the High Trestle Trail.
Virtual open houses and online surveys captured input from more than 1,000 stakeholders with direct participation of more than 250 people in a virtual open house to discuss public art along the trail. Public artists developed concepts for installations inspired by the public outreach. We worked with the city to solidify the proposed experience master plan filled with specific public art installations and trail amenity recommendations.
The successful completion of the master plan with key public art installations and other amenity recommendations covers a 4.1-mile stretch of the High Trestle Trail that bisects Ankeny. Bringing this additional attention to the trail will attract more users to the city, providing a financial boost to businesses near the trail.
