2nd Avenue North Reconstruction
City of Fort Dodge, Iowa
2nd Avenue North is a heavily-traveled corridor between the downtown business district and the rapidly expanding business development on the east edge of town. The aging pavement experienced more traffic than was intended and was deteriorating rapidly. In addition to the pavement, the city's sanitary sewer and manholes needed replacement due to their age. The city's storm sewer was undersized to serve the roadway and watermain replacement was needed as well.
Bolton & Menk designed the reconstruction of four blocks of 2nd Avenue North to minimize traffic disruption. This included developing a phased approach to the improvements and staging the work to minimize road closures. We bid the project in separate phases and allowed bid alternates for the pavement type to ensure the best construction price for the city. A public involvement plan helped address resident concerns along the project corridor. The project was completed on schedule and under budget to the satisfaction of the city and public.
