Sarah Lloyd and Mika Kinney Recognized as Notable Women in STEM

Sarah Lloyd and Mika Kinney have been recognized as two of Twin Cities Business2023 Notable Women in STEM. This honor is given to 16 women in the Twin Cities area who are leaders and innovators in their respective STEM fields.

Mika serves the Twin Cities area as a design engineer and construction inspection manager at Bolton & Menk. She coordinates construction activities, QA/QC testing, contractor schedules, and performs field engineering for Twin Cities residential road rehabilitation projects. While on the job site, she communicates with clients, community members, and contractors through weekly meetings, neighborhood meetings, and open houses. She uses her passion for STEM to develop AutoCAD designs and prepares plans and cost estimates for municipal projects including site grading, utilities, and street improvements. Contractors are relieved to see Mika’s name leading their projects because they know her projects go off without a hitch. Her organization and attention to detail don’t go unnoticed – with Mika, all boxes are checked, and no stone is left unturned.

Mika is an active member of the Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers, currently serving as co-chair for the Minnesota Young Engineers Committee. She works hard to plan events and activities that allow fellow women in STEM to network with those also new to the industry and participate in leadership classes to enhance their skills and confidence.

Sarah collaborates with clients to come up with solutions and help them achieve their goals. She is a project manager who began her engineering career in 1996. Her experience includes a variety of engineering tasks including the preparation of preliminary engineering reports, final design, plan and specification production, cost estimating, and construction management. She works on a variety of municipal street and utility infrastructure projects including new construction and reconstruction. Sarah enjoys talking to residents and council members to help them better understand the various project elements and why improvements are necessary through informal and formal project meetings and presentations.

Sarah is the client service manager for many cities in the Twin Cities Metro area, including Burnsville, Eden Prairie, Edina, Elko New Market, and Richfield. She serves as a primary contact for these cities and has managed all phases of municipal project development from conception through construction. Sarah is also involved with the Minnesota Chapter of the American Public Works Association, serving as the Awards Committee Chair and is a founding member of Bolton & Menk’s Women’s Group, working hard to inspire other women in STEM throughout the firm.
