Runway 16/34

Taxiway and Apron Reconstruction, City of Blue Earth, Minnesota

The existing runway and taxiway bituminous pavements deteriorated beyond repair and needed a long-term solution to address the underlying wet clay subgrade. An additional parallel taxiway was also needed to reduce aircraft conflicts on the runway.

Design, bidding, and construction engineering services were provided for this multi-phased project. The project included reconstructing Runway 16/34 and Taxiway A, constructing parallel Taxiway B and connecting taxiways, airfield lighting system upgrades, new guidance signs, and wind cones. A porous drainable aggregate was part of the overall pavement section. It was tied to a comprehensive underdrain system to address the impacts of the underlying clays on the new pavement.

The award-winning concrete runway, taxiway, and apron pavement will better serve the airport for the next 50 years.
