Innovative channel design solutions improved access for boats traveling between Fairmont's Chain of Lakes.
Woodland Avenue Channel Improvements
City of Fairmont, Minnesota
The channel under the Woodland Avenue Bridge was becoming too shallow for safe boat navigation. Riprap and embankment material was sliding into the channel. In addition, the channel alignment had a deflection that made sight lines to boat traffic difficult.
Bolton & Menk developed a solution to slide a three-sided, precast concrete box culvert under the bridge to improve channel depth, stabilize the embankment, and straighten the channel alignment. The channel now has improved access for boats traveling between Fairmont's Chain of Lakes.
