Downtown Streetscape and Infrastructure Improvements

City of Iowa Falls, Iowa

Aging infrastructure of deteriorating streets, uneven sidewalks, and utility issues were plaguing downtown Iowa Falls. The project consisted of seven blocks of Washington Avenue and the side streets of Oak Street, Stevens Street, and Main Street. The west three blocks of Washington Avenue were designed as concrete overlay with curb and gutter and sidewalk ramp replacement. The east four blocks of Washington Avenue and the cross streets were designed as full reconstruction with utility replacement and streetscape amenities. Bolton & Menk's design services included public and client meetings, design, DOT and bid coordination, and contractor selection. Construction services included construction administration and observation and progress meetings. Full time construction observation was provided with field review, daily observation reports, material certification, and quantity verifications. The annual city celebration brought residents and visitors to downtown where city staff received many positive comments on the project.
