I-90 Weigh Station
Minnesota Department of Transportation District 7
An aggressive project schedule was necessary to preserve federal funding for the I-90 Weigh Station in Worthington, which had a looming sunset date where funding would be lost. Bolton & Menk completed final design and bidding documents for the improvements and was able to turn around a final plan set (102 sheets) for review within two and a half weeks of receiving survey data.
The design included reconstruction of concrete ramps; reconfiguring weigh station bypass lanes, scale lanes, parking lot, and parking lot loops; parking lot reconfiguration to add additional capacity; detailed site grading design including drainage considerations around an existing weigh scale; ADA accessibility upgrades; lighting design; traffic management system upgrades; and coordination on concurrent improvements to the building and parking garage. The plans received final approval in time to meet the required letting date. A detailed critical path was established and internal and external resources were utilized to successfully deliver on each task.
