The American Public Works Association (APWA) – Iowa Chapter recognized the Cities of Ames and Cedar Rapids with 2018 Project of the Year awards. Both projects were nominated by project engineer, Bolton & Menk.
The American Public Works Association (APWA) – North Dakota Chapter recognized North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) with the 2018 Project of the Year Award for communities under 5,000 at the North Dakota Water and Pollution Control Conference.
Emergency vehicles must get to locations as quickly and as effectively as possible. When sight lines are impacted, a nearby traffic signal or emergency beacon may be activated to notify approaching vehicles to be on the lookout for emergency vehicles. The Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MNMUTCD) includes another option; the Emergency Vehicle Hybrid Beacon (EVHB).
To assist clients with their understanding of the complex project, Bolton & Menk, Inc. used state-of-the-art AutoCAD Plan 3D design software and renderings to produce a realistic model of the treatment facility allowing operators, the public utilities department, city management, and council to easily review and understand the upgrades. The 3D plans provided the cities with drawings showing the structures, equipment, pumps, piping, and valves as they will be constructed.
When the City of New Prague wanted a more reliable and accessible system for locating electrical and water utilities, they looked for a long-term solution. They found their answer via a web-based GIS mapping application. This forward-thinking system not only saves time and money, but has provided many additional benefits to the City and the New Prague Utilities Commission.
Sioux Center, Iowa was facing development of a complex engineering project at their wastewater treatment facility. An early goal of the project was to help educate the city council and staff on wastewater treatment and how the project was going to work.

The Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association awarded the City of Hastings and Bolton & Menk with an Award of Excellence in the Park and Facility category for the Riverfront Renaissance Improvements Project. The award was presented at the City of Hastings City Council Meeting on May 15. The MRPA Award of Excellence program recognizes agencies or organizations in Minnesota for outstanding achievements in parks, recreation, and leisure services.

The Cities of Hunter and Arthur Park Districts formed the Hunter/Arthur JPA Park Board in 2013 upon the decision of BNSF Railway to abandon their railway corridor between Hunter and Arthur. The JPA pursued the acquisition of this corridor through the Rails to Trails program and successfully acquired the corridor in 2013.
