Bolton & Menk on the Board: The Value of Board Service
At Bolton & Menk, the impact of our work does not stop when a project is complete. It continues in the ways our people show up for their industries and communities through professional board service. By stepping into these roles, they are sharing expertise, shaping conversations, and helping move important work forward.
Here’s a look at how three leaders are making an impact through their board service.
Sarah Zarzecki, PE, PMP | Transportation Design Practice Leader
American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado, Secretary/Treasurer
Sarah Zarzecki is a transportation design practice leader who began her career in 2007. She has led the design of multidisciplinary transportation projects across Colorado, with experience spanning bicycle and pedestrian facilities, highways, and roadway systems from concept through construction, including utility coordination and public outreach.
Serving as Secretary and Treasurer for the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Colorado, Sarah supports advocacy efforts and helps guide initiatives that strengthen the consulting engineering industry.
“ACEC Colorado represents approximately 260 member firms and supports the consulting engineering industry through advocacy, professional resources, and business ethics guidance. I serve on the Board of Directors for the American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado, where I was first elected in 2024 and now serve as Secretary and Treasurer as part of a leadership track that continues through 2030.
Through this role, I have the opportunity to elevate the engineering profession by engaging in advocacy, outreach, and strategic initiatives that support business success and public value. I have been involved in transportation risk committees, statewide transportation teams, and legislative efforts that include advocacy meetings and tracking bills that impact our industry. I have also provided testimony on behalf of ACEC to the state legislature.
What excites me most is the opportunity to advocate for our profession. Over time, this work has become a true passion. Participating in government and helping shape policy has been an incredibly rewarding experience that reinforces the impact engineers have on our communities.”

“I currently serve as the Past Board Chair for the Minnesota GIS/LIS Consortium, following leadership roles that began in 2024 and continued through my term as Board Chair in 2025.
In this role, I provide continuity and strategic support to both the Board of Directors and the executive leadership team. I bring institutional knowledge from my time as Chair to help guide ongoing initiatives and ensure a smooth leadership transition. I stay closely involved in strategic planning, organizational priorities, and mentoring emerging leaders across the Board and its 13 standing committees.
What continues to motivate me is giving back to the geospatial community that shaped my career. I especially value supporting students and emerging professionals. Creating opportunities for them to build connections and grow in the industry is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.
I am proud to help represent the organization at conferences and partner engagements, strengthening relationships, and promoting the value of geospatial technology.”

At its core, the value of board service is about giving back beyond the work you do every day. It is an opportunity to share what you know, learn from others, and help move your industry forward in a meaningful way. Board service gives our people a chance to build connections, encourage future talent, and be part of something that matters.
