Celebrating Iredell Water’s Infrastructure Funding Win

We are proud to celebrate a historic achievement with the Iredell Water Corporation, which secured more than $500,000 in grant funding through the State of North Carolina between July 2024 and March 2025.

Our Southeast funding experts assisted Iredell Water Corporation in applying for funding to conduct a comprehensive lead service line inventory of the system’s service area. As a result of these efforts, Iredell Water Corporation was awarded $348,620 to complete a lead service line inventory.

This project includes existing records review, public engagement, inventory refinement, property inspections, and submittal. The completion of this inventory positioned us to assist in addressing more water system needs. The grant application process involved understanding the system’s affordability characteristics, ensuring the maximum amount of funding was sought, and submitting a detailed grant application.

Additionally, Iredell Water Corporation received $140,000 to complete an asset inventory and assessment of the water system and $50,000 to conduct a merger regionalization and feasibility study. These studies will identify regionalization opportunities to address water supply issues and ensure a reliable water supply for the area.

Our partnership with Iredell Water extends beyond funding. Bolton & Menk provides ongoing professional engineering support, including a comprehensive hydraulic model of the utility’s system—36 wells, 11 storage tanks, and more than 500 miles of mains. This model, calibrated with historical data and hydrant flow tests, helps identify infrastructure improvements and supports development planning through on-call modeling services.

“Thanks to the expertise and guidance of Bolton & Menk, we successfully secured over $500,000 in grant funding through the State of North Carolina—a first in Iredell Water Corporation’s 59-year history,” said Danny Sloan, CEO of Iredell Water Corporation.

Sloan continued, “This funding supports three critical projects: Lead Service Line Inventory, Asset Inventory & Assessment, and a Merger/Regionalization Feasibility Study. These grants mark a crucial step for Iredell Water Corporation, enabling us to continue to protect public health and ensure safe drinking water, enhance water system planning and management, and explore opportunities for regional collaboration and efficiency.”

These funds will be the backbone of long-term infrastructure improvements that will benefit our community for generations to come. We sincerely thank Bolton & Menk for their dedication and partnership in making this possible.”

Congratulations to Iredell Water Corporation on this remarkable achievement. We are proud to have been a part of this journey and look forward to continuing our partnership to achieve even greater successes in the future!
