Dakota Prairie Composting Facility Wins APWA-MN Award
We are honored to announce that the Dakota Prairie Composting Facility has received the 2025 APWA-MN Project of the Year Award in the Environmental category.
Completed in June, this 92-acre facility is Minnesota’s largest organics recycling site, featuring advanced composting and stormwater reuse systems. At full capacity, it will divert over 212,000 tons of organics annually, helping reduce landfill waste and greenhouse gas emissions while supporting Minnesota’s recycling goals.
The project’s success was driven by strong community engagement and collaboration, with regular updates, public events, and close coordination during construction. Despite challenges like the Minnesota River flooding, the team accelerated safety improvements to minimize disruptions.
We extend our sincere thanks to our project partners whose collaboration made this achievement possible:
- Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community
