The Iowa Concrete Paving Association and the Iowa DOT have selected Windsor Heights’ 2020 Street Improvement project as the Concrete Paving Awards recipient in the Municipal Streets/Intersections category. This award is presented to Iowa contractors and contracting authorities for the most outstanding PCC pavement projects constructed in the past season. The awards ceremony was part of the 58th Annual Concrete Paving Workshop and was held February 3, 2022, at the Airport Holiday Inn, Des Moines.
As part of the City of Windsor Heights’ Capital Improvement Plan, three streets (Allison Avenue, College Drive, and 69th Street) were identified as priorities for the city to improve their aging infrastructure.
Bolton & Menk prepared plans and specifications that include complete street reconstruction, watermain replacement, storm sewer improvements, sanitary sewer replacements, and sidewalk replacement. The project team updated residents about the design, held an open house, and answered questions they may have about the project. Bolton & Menk also performed construction administration during the duration of the project.
This street improvement project gave area residents safe and sustainable roads to accommodate both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Communication with project stakeholders was crucial and allowed the project team to work safely and efficiently throughout the residential area.
