Pioneer Park Receives MRPA Award of Excellence
Congratulations to the City of Little Canada for receiving an MRPA Award of Excellence for Pioneer Park!
The City of Little Canada saw the need to enhance Pioneer Park as per their Parks System Plan. The park lacked accessible and inclusive recreational spaces, limiting its use by the community. The goal was to remove barriers and create a welcoming environment for everyone.
The city engaged the community through various methods, including youth participation, focus groups, interviews, and a citywide survey to gather feedback on desired improvements. After collecting the feedback, the city partnered with Bolton & Menk to develop the Pioneer Park Master Plan, which served as the blueprint for park enhancements. Bolton & Menk also assisted in securing a grant and finalizing the project plans.
Construction began in the spring of 2023 and was substantially completed in the fall of 2023. The improvements turned a 1.2-acre area of the park into a vibrant community hub, promoting inclusivity and accessibility while offering practical amenities for recreation and gatherings.
