Alternative excavation means, including trenchless water services, were incorporated to help the contractor cross the newly underground private utilities.
Woodhill Road was a 1.1-mile collector roadway with a failing surface and aging 36-inch trunk watermain providing water from tower to a large portion of the city. Bolton & Menk developed plans to include replacement of the 36-inch water main with a smaller, but acceptable, 30-inch watermain.
An eight-inch domestic watermain was added to parallel the trunk to serve the domestic water services, reducing connection and potential weak points on the new trunk main. Project phasing and temporary water service plans were developed to maintain water service spanning three separate water pressure zones along the area, as well as maintain suitable access for accident residents and businesses. An eight-foot multi-use trail was added to the length of the corridor to offer a safer travel option for pedestrians and cyclists. Alternative excavation means, including trenchless water services, were incorporated to help the contractor cross the newly underground private utilities. Strategic phasing and a public communication plan were put into place to help navigate the construction area and reduce impacts to businesses.
