Gull River Crossing Named ASCE MN Project of the Year

Cass County, Minnesota’s CSAH 70 Gull River Crossing has been named the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Minnesota Chapter Project of the Year, recognizing its impact on public safety, design quality, and environmental stewardship.

The project reflects Cass County’s commitment to addressing long-standing safety and connectivity challenges. For more than a century, the route relied on a narrow, one-lane bridge in a heavily used recreational area. County leaders advanced a long-term solution to better serve residents, visitors, and emergency response.

In partnership with the City of East Gull Lake, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Bolton & Menk, the project introduced a new roadway alignment, bridge, roundabouts, and pedestrian trail connection to improve traffic flow and reduce conflict points.

Environmental and cultural considerations guided the work from planning through construction. The team coordinated with agencies and tribal representatives to avoid sensitive areas and protect natural and cultural resources, minimizing impacts to wetlands and the Gull River corridor.

The result is a safer, more reliable connection that reflects thoughtful design and strong collaboration.

Congratulations to Cass County and the entire project team on this well-earned recognition!
