The APA-NC Awards Program includes Great Places Awards and Marvin Collins Planning Awards. These awards are presented annually to recognize the places, projects, and people representing the highest levels of achievement in the North Carolina planning community. The Robert E. Reiman Professional Achievement Award honors a planner who has made a sustained and significant contribution to the planning profession in North Carolina.

Over the last two decades, John has worked on Complete Streets, transit and sustainable mobility planning, and urban redevelopment projects with regional and local agencies, non-profit organizations, and numerous cities across the southeastern United States. A planning practice area leader at Bolton & Menk, John has established professional expertise in the areas of planning and design for multi-modal/sustainable transportation; Smart Growth policy, regulatory, and urban design standards; streetscape and roadway design principles for complete streets, corridors and sustainable mobility; regulatory and policy tools for walkable development and parking management; transit access and station area planning; project management; group facilitation; strategic planning; long range land use and transportation planning.
