Winter Snow and Ice Management: A Three-Season Event
Transitioning maintenance and management practices between seasons can be challenging for stormwater practitioners and public works officials. Winter weather can be especially difficult as melting snow and ice allow salt and other materials to enter our ecosystem, but all seasons must be considered in the maintenance plan public works officials create. The transition of rain to snow on frozen ground in the late fall, leading to a buildup of salt and sediment during the harshest winter months, wash away as accumulated pollution when the snow melts and rain begins again in the spring. Here is a what you and your community can do to help.
