The practices and coordination efforts are expected to be carried forward into an annual program that will allow Minneapolis to proactively maintain and maximize the life of all concrete streets throughout the city.
The City of Minneapolis maintains hundreds of miles of concrete streets throughout the city. With interest to establish a formal, ongoing rehabilitation program, Bolton & Menk managed and designed an initial pilot project within the Waite Park Neighborhood in northeast Minneapolis. This project included nearly 8 miles of residential concrete roadways that have been in service for approximately 50 years. The work included a variety of rehabilitation procedures including crack and joint repairs, panel replacements, spot curb repairs, and concrete grinding, among others. The process consists of field surveys and collaboration with expert concrete contractors in order to develop an approach anticipated to extend the pavement life by another 20 years. Bolton & Menk also worked with public and private utility owners within the neighborhood to identify necessary utility upgrades compatible with less-invasive pavement rehab work. The practices and coordination efforts will be carried forward into an annual program to allow Minneapolis to proactively maintain and maximize the life of all concrete streets throughout the city.
