Through in-depth neighborhood and school involvement during the planning process, the new stadium has been embraced by the community and will be a landmark for years to come.
The track and field facility of Minneapolis North High School is constrained by city streets on three sides and a private parking lot to the north. The stadium site contained original school foundations, basement tunnels, and coal burning furnaces which needed to be removed and treated to meet environmental and structural requirements of the new running track and synthetic turf field.
Bolton & Menk provided site planning, civil engineering, and landscape architectural services through the facility redesign and revitalization process while working with school staff and involving community members.
To fit the new eight-lane running track and synthetic turf field within property limits, old visitor bleachers were removed. Track layout and dimensions have been optimized to meet current regulations while supporting spectator and player safety. Stormwater management was specifically and uniquely designed to meet city and watershed requirements.
