Synthetic Turf Design for Athletic Fields

As an alternative to sand/peat-based or soil-based sports fields, synthetic turf fields are becoming increasingly popular among high school and college athletic teams due to their playability, durability, and safety. Today’s synthetic turf consists of individual blades of synthetic (polyethylene) material filled with crushed rubber or a mixture of crushed rubber and sand. This artificial turf is installed over a compacted subgrade of free-draining rock material and a subdrain system, giving it the look and play of natural grass.

Synthetic turf design offers several advantages over traditional sports fields. One of the primary benefits is its consistent playability, regardless of weather conditions. Unlike natural grass fields, which can become muddy and uneven after heavy rain, synthetic turf remains playable and safe. Additionally, synthetic turf fields require less maintenance, as they do not need to be mowed, watered, or fertilized. This not only saves time and resources but also reduces the environmental impact associated with maintaining natural grass fields.

We have designed more than 80 synthetic turf fields and hundreds of running track facilities since the mid-1990s. Our expertise in synthetic turf design ensures that you receive a high-quality surface that meets the specific needs of your athletic programs.
