Home / East of Kings Highway Redevelopment Plan, City of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
The East of Kings Highway Redevelopment Plan aims to revitalize Myrtle Beach’s downtown with vibrant spaces and transformative opportunities for both locals and tourists.
The City of Myrtle Beach’s downtown has long served as a primary tourism-based destination but has lacked in persuading the local population to live and work in the downtown area.
The East of Kings Highway Redevelopment Plan builds on the momentum created by the Downtown Master Plan, Arts and Innovation District planning, and recent city efforts to successfully acquire property. In efforts to address challenges and position the city for future success, Bolton & Menk led a planning process that uncovered and accentuated the downtown area's strengths and bolsters the city's understanding of its weaknesses to address challenges and position the city for future success.
The resulting plan provides a framework for creating a unique, cohesive area east of Kings Highway in downtown. The plan identified possible development opportunities and explored options to address how new development will build upon the vibrancy of the adjacent Art and Innovation District. As significant public and private investment is anticipated in this area, the recommendations leverage a multipurpose event space that can host sports while providing year-round use for concerts, outdoor events, festivals, and conferences.
