The roundabout provides a safer rural intersection to the area.
A rural, two-way stop-controlled intersection outside of the City of Norwood Young America had a severe crash history and minimal intersection sight distance to spot oncoming traffic.
After a fatal crash at the intersection in 2013, Bolton & Menk helped Carver County apply for Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds. We recommended a design to replace the two-way stop with a roundabout, flatten out approaches to slow traffic, and minimize conflict points at the intersection.
Carver County was awarded $1.5 million in HSIP funds to design and construct the roundabout. The roundabout provides a safer rural intersection to the area.
