Home / Main Lift Station, City of Two Harbors, Minnesota
Bolton & Menk developed a facility plan to obtain funding assistance through the state’s Clean Water Revolving Fund.
Nearly 40 years old, the City of Two Harbors’ main lift station needed significant upgrades. The aged equipment and unreliable electrical and controls system led to three sanitary sewer bypass events in the last five years, creating additional urgency to resolve the issues.
Bolton & Menk developed a facility plan to obtain funding assistance through the state’s Clean Water Revolving Fund. We recommended the city replace all process, mechanical, and electrical equipment in the station and reuse the existing structure, which was still in good condition. The project included replacing six existing lift station pumps to maintain the current peak capacity of 9,000 gpm; replacing an influent bar screen with a rail-mounted Muffin Monster®; replacing all HVAC equipment to meet ventilation requirements; replacing all electrical and controls equipment; and adding SCADA. Miscellaneous building improvements included new roofing, selective tuckpointing and brick replacement, new access hatches, new doors, and painting.
Implementing the recommended rehab improvements was a cost-effective way to address deficiencies. The new equipment is more reliable and efficient, resulting in lower operating costs.
