Home / Municipal Liquor Store, City of Paynesville, Minnesota
Paynesville’s liquor store redesign proves that thoughtful interior improvements can deliver big results, boosting efficiency and customer experience without costly expansion.
The City of Paynesville sought to enhance the functionality and efficiency of its municipal liquor store without undertaking a costly or expansive redesign. While the building’s exterior remains modest, the city needed a solution that would optimize interior space for retail display and streamline operations for staff, all within a defined budget and using preferred vendors.
Bolton & Menk partnered closely with the liquor store staff and board of directors to align design decisions with cost and quality expectations. The team integrated retail shelving and refrigeration systems sourced from the client’s preferred vendor, ensuring seamless coordination and installation. Site access and circulation were carefully planned to support efficient loading and discreet screening of back-of-house functions, while enhancing the customer experience at the front of the store. Every design element was tailored to maximize operational flow and retail visibility.
Through Bolton & Menk’s collaborative and detail-oriented approach, the Paynesville Liquor Store is on track to achieve a highly functional and efficient retail environment. Staff workflows have been optimized, and the store layout now supports both customer engagement and operational needs. The project is progressing smoothly, with the contractor targeting completion in late 2025, delivering a solution that meets the city’s goals for performance, aesthetics, and budget.
