Approximately 21,000 SF of existing space was renovated, and 52,000 SF was added to provide public spaces, a clinical practice area, laboratory, diagnostic space, radiation therapy, support areas, and a space for the Area Health Education Center.
The Comprehensive Cancer Center at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, North Carolina underwent an extensive renovation and expansion project. Bolton & Menk provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the project. Approximately 21,000 square feet of existing space was renovated, and 52,000 square feet were added to provide public spaces, a clinical practice area, laboratory, diagnostic space, radiation therapy, support areas, and a space for the Area Health Education Center. The site development portion of the project covered 8 acres and included updated vehicular and pedestrian access to the site and enhanced circulation throughout. Sitework also included parking area renovations, a detailed sub-surface stormwater management system, and a healing garden for patients, family, and staff adjacent to the cancer treatment center. The garden includes specialized lighting, seating, landscaping, irrigation, and an interactive fountain.
