There are numerous safety issues along the corridors, and fatalities are well-above the state and metropolitan average. By listening to the needs of the communities affected by these issues, we will make them safer now and in the future.
The TH 47/65 corridors have a troubled history of serious and fatal crashes, including multiple pedestrian deaths. Bolton & Menk was part of a consultant team developing a future vision that included a series of roadway and ped/bike improvements for the 10-mile stretch of both Highway 47 and 65 from Minneapolis to US Highway 10 in the northern suburbs of the metro area. Both of these high-traffic highways traverse urban and suburban communities in the Twin Cities. The PEL study identified concepts that will meet the safety-based goals and improve the highways for all users while balancing traffic management needs.
Bolton & Menk led the planning and community engagement, and supported the alternatives evaluation and study documentation. Our community engagement efforts included a team of community-based partners focused on reaching people with different backgrounds, spoken languages, and perspectives. Our work culminated with partner-supported recommendations for concepts and alternatives to be carried forward into future design and NEPA phases.
