Overview

Bolton & Menk provided engineering design services for upgrades at Harris Ranch Beef Company in Selma, California.

Sectors

Harris Ranch Beef Company was required to upgrade wastewater treatment facilities at its Selma, California beef packing plant. Harris constructed new primary and secondary processes facilities for BOD, TSS, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus removal prior to land application.

Bolton & Menk provided engineering design services for the improvements. The primary treatment processes include screening, grit removal, flow equalization, and dissolved air flotation with chemical pretreatment. The secondary treatment processes include anaerobic lagoon with biogas capture and 5-stage Bardenpho activated sludge for bilogical nitrogen and phosphorus removal. The plant was designed to reduce the total nitrogen concentration from 250 mg/L to less than 30 mg/L through the use of jet aeration systems with on/off aeration and a post anoxic basin with supplemental carbon addition (fruit juice or glycerin). Facility improvements also include mechanical sludge dewatering by screw press..
