Ames Fitness Center

Ames Racquet and Fitness Center wanted to build a state-of-the-art facility in the ISU Research Park to meet the needs of their clients. There were several goals associated with the new site, including pedestrian and bike accommodations and a long-lasting parking lot with minimal storm sewer and room to grow.

Bolton & Menk completed site design for the project. We listened to the client’s needs and developed a site plan that met all expectations. We completed a pavement analysis, which looked at pavement type, subbase material, and long-term maintenance costs to help narrow in on the most cost-effective and long-term solution. We designed the parking lot to reduce the amount of storm sewer required through swales and biocells. Pedestrian and bike traffic flow were analyzed and built into the site to allow safe interaction between vehicles, pedestrians, and bikes. Direct connections to existing trails were also provided.

Bolton & Menk merged site needs and long-term investments in the final product. The parking lot earned an award from the Iowa Concrete Paving Association for the best concrete parking lot in the state.
