Decades in the making, the Arts and Innovation District began to take shape when passionate individuals from various sectors and industries came together under a singular vision to elevate the experience of downtown Myrtle Beach.
The City of Myrtle Beach enlisted Bolton & Menk to provide survey, engineering, and construction services to design more than 3,000 linear feet of both water line and gravity sewer in addition to more than 2,500 of force main replacement, and overhead utility wires being converted to an underground conduit system to assist in the transformation of the community to restore the vibrant heyday of the city’s past, showcase the creativity of the present, and capitalize on the innovative thinking of the future. Ambitious planning at this scare required the removal of physical and economic hurdles to growth and a broad strategy that empowered stakeholders.
Bolton & Menk is fully redesigning approximately 1.34 miles of various roadways, alleys, and major arterials into safe, beautiful streets that are functional for bikes and pedestrians. The streetscape includes abandonment and acquisition of right-of-way, and realignment and design of new roadways throughout the district to include walkways, on-street parking, and bike lanes. Drainage throughout the district was also fully redesigned to include regional ponds, passive parks, and trails in addition to the physical drainage infrastructure including a comprehensive pervious paver system.
