Overview

Today, German Park features a state-of-the-art, structurally sound, concrete terraced amphitheater space that has expanded audience capacity to more than 550 patrons.

The German Park Amphitheater, originally constructed in the mid-1990s as an earthen and grass terrace facility, had experienced settlement over time. This settlement rendered the space unusable as intended to host large audiences and limiting the size and types of performances it could host. The facility also lacked adequate ADA accessibility, limiting access to patrons with mobility impairments.

Bolton & Menk began working with the city to address these issues in 2012, developing a feasibility study to identify alternatives to remediate the settlement and accessibility issues. In 2018, project efforts ramped up with Bolton & Menk and city staff creating a vision and construction plans for the future of the amphitheater. Construction began in April 2020 and completed in October 2020.

Today, German Park features a state-of-the-art, structurally sound, concrete terraced amphitheater space that has expanded audience capacity to more than 550 patrons. The venue hosts the city's summer concert series and is routinely booked for weddings and other public and private functions.

In 2022, the addition of a shade structure around the upper terrace of the amphitheater was completed to frame the space and offer relief from the summer sun. This addition was planned for during the design and construction process to allow for seamless integration when funding was procured for its addition.
