A major obstacle to development of this roadway was the requirement to protect the black bears located in the area.

This project is a 5-mile-long, vital transportation artery connecting SC Highway 90 to Robert Grissom Parkway. Bolton & Menk provided the design and regulatory permitting for this RIDE II funded project. A major obstacle to development was the requirement by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to protect the black bears located in the area. Bolton & Menk, along with key assistance from our State Delegation, worked through this requirement and because of the savings, the road was constructed as a four- and five-lane section with a multi-purpose path. The project improved this important roadway for the traveling public of the Grand Strand.
